چکیده

We report an experimental investigation on the relationship between the thickness of the viscous boundary layer and the highest excitation (or cuto ) frequency of the temperature power spectrum in turbulent convection, using water as working uid. For the range of the Rayleigh number spanned in the experiment (10–10), we con rm that the peak position in the cuto frequency pro le can be used as an alternative measure of the viscous boundary layer thickness [A. Belmonte et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 70 (1993) 4067]. But a previous justi cation given for this method is not borne out in our system. The implications of the current work will be discussed with respect to results from other experiments using uids with Prandtl numbers di erent than that of water. c © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Heat and mass transfer of nanofluid over a linear stretching surface with Viscous dissipation effect

Boundary Layer Flow past a stretching surface with constant wall temperature, of a nanofluid is studied for heat transfer characteristics. The system of partial differential equations describing such a flow is subjected to similarity transformations gives rise to a boundary value problem involving a system of ordinary differential equations. This system is solved by a shooting method. Effect of...

MHD Boundary Layer Flow and Heat Transfer of Newtonian Nanofluids over a Stretching Sheet with Variable Velocity and Temperature Distribution

Laminar boundary layer flow and heat transfer of Newtonian nanofluid over a stretching sheet with the sheet velocity distribution of the form (UW=cXβ) and the wall temperature distribution of the form (TW=T∞+aXr ) for the steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) is studied numerically. The governing momentum and energy equations are transformed to the local non-similarity equations using the appropriat...

Heat Transfer in Three-Dimensional Flow along a Porous Plate

An analysis of heat transfer in the flow of a viscous, in-compressible fluid along an infinite porous plate is presented when the plate is subjected to a transverse sinusoidal suction. The flow field becomes three-dimensional due to this type of suction velocity. Expressions for the flow and temperature fields are obtained by series expansion method. It is found during the course of discussion ...

Boundary layer Viscous Flow of Nanofluids and Heat Transfer Over a Nonlinearly Isothermal Stretching Sheet in the Presence of Heat Generation/Absorption and Slip Boundary Conditions

The steady two-dimensional flow of a viscous nanofluid of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow and heattransfer characteristics for the boundary layer flow over a nonlinear stretching sheet is considered. Theflow is caused by a nonlinear stretching sheet with effects of velocity, temperature and concentrationslips. Problem formulation is developed in the pre...
